Fast growing tree with a straight trunk and beautiful peculiar four-lobed leaves and tulip-shaped green-yellow flowers, 4-5 cm large, in June-July. The leaves have a beautiful golden yellow autumn colour. Old trees grow to 20 to 25 metres high with a broad oval crown. Liriodendron has a deep and fleshy taproot, which requires a loose but still moist soil.
The name 'Tulip tree' came from the resemblance of the leaf of the Liriodendron to the flower of the tulip.
