'Blue Prince' is perhaps the most widely used holly, and certainly one of the best known. Its natural habit is broad pyramidal, up to at least 5 meters high and 3.5 meters wide. The young twigs are purple-blue, the petioles a purplish green. The young leaves are bright green to bronze. The ovate adult leaves are blue-green and have a serrated margin. The leaf appears spiky, but can be touched with bare hands without stinging. It is a male cultivar with white flowers with a hint of pink. Since it is the male form, this cultivar does not bear any fruit, but it is a very good pollen supplier for the female 'Blue Hollies'. Excellent for hedges.

Holly grows in full sun, partial shade and shade, but requires a sufficiently moist, humus-rich soil. They do not like lime soil. Very wet soils are not suitable for holly.
Holly is very easy to cut and can be used as a solitary, in groups and as a hedge. Even the Romans already used holly to plant impenetrable hedges.
