This is the wild native holly. Evergreen shrub with dark green leaves, strongly prickly on young plants, but less prickly with age. Hedges that are clipped regularly always have thorny leaves and are almost impenetrable. In the spring, inconspicuous white flowers appear. The fruits ripen in September and are about 8 millimeters in size and bright red.

Holly grows in full sun, partial shade and shade, but requires a sufficiently moist, humus-rich soil. They do not like lime soil. Very wet soils are not suitable for holly.
Holly is very easy to cut and can be used as a solitary, in groups and as a hedge. Even the Romans already used holly to plant impenetrable hedges.
