Interesting autumn flowering shrub with beautiful, large, double flowers. 'Ardens' bears blue-purple flowers with a red heart. Early flowering species that flowers from June to the end of September (in dry and warm late summers), so at a time when most summer flowers have finished flowering. The flowers only bloom for a short time, but new flowers keep appearing. In rainy weather they flower less well, the flowers then remain closed. Flowers on one-year-old wood and can therefore be pruned in the spring if necessary. However, pruning is usually unnecessary due to the compact growth habit. Can be planted both in groups and as a solitary. Require a sunny location and well-drained humus-rich soil.
