Native, large shrub with dense crown, growing as high as it is wide. Light green, glossy leaves, 4-10 cm, on thin twigs. The autumn colour is yellow to orange-red. Yellow flowers in small spherical clusters on the old wood, depending on the weather flowering between January and early April, before the leaf development. Edible, but slightly sour fruits. These are oval, glossy, up to 2 cm in size and can be used for making jam and fruit juice. Can be used as a hedge plant and as a solitary and tolerates polluted air and light shade well. Preferably on chalky soil.
